A petri dish is a shallow, transparent dish that biologists use to culture cells. Culturing cells is a tedious process that refers to the removal of cells from an animal or plant and their growth in an artificial, controlled environment.
The petri dish is a staple in laboratories and scientists use them every day. It has been common since the late 19th century.
The BioMedical Scientist of IBMS quotes Andrea Sella, an award-winning chemist, broadcaster and classic science kit and equipment enthusiast, in an article titled “The Big Story, The Petri Dish.” She says the following:
“[Petri Dish] means ‘living laboratory’ and is used to signify any interesting experiments that are taking place. I don’t think there’s an equivalent. The Petri dish, as both equipment and idea, will be around for a long time.”
Foxx Life Sciences aides innovation, and that is why we offer Borosil® brand petri dishes to fulfill any of our customers’ wide-ranging needs. Although these dishes are primarily for cell culture, our petri dishes are manufactured to support crystalizing, evaporating, drying, and storing of cells. They also support assay and microbiological works. All of Foxx’s petri dishes comply with IS 2626 and are Class/Quality Grade Type 1. They are ideal for routine work and are made of 3.3 Borosilicate Glass.
Our Petri Dishes are inert and can remain clear despite being repeatedly sterilized. The cost per petri dish decreases with each subsequent use. Foxx Life Sciences offers a selection that allows our customers to choose petri dishes by the size of OD (outside diameter) and H (height). All petri dish bundles come with covers!
We recognize the need for petri dishes in every laboratory and want to make sure our customers have access to high quality products. Check out our entire petri dish collection here.
